How does dermal filler work?

As we age lines and wrinkles occur, curves and contours of the face also change as volume is lost. Dermal fillers are injectable gels made from synthesised hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the skin. Dermal fillers give skin volume and hydration, diminishing the depth of wrinkles and creating a more refreshed facial appearance. Dermal fillers are also used to create plump, hydrated, youthful lips.

What does the treatment involve?

The treatment area will be cleansed and depending on the area, a numbing cream may be applied.

An amount of filler gel is injected into specific facial areas with a fine needle. Our fillers contain Lidocaine which is an anaesthetic that can help to reduce discomfort during the treatment.

The area will be massaged as needed and your nurse will discuss post care specific to your treatment area.

How long will the procedure take?

The procedure generally takes about 30 – 45 minutes.

What to expect after treatment?

The treated area may feel numb for quite a few hours which is normal as the fillers injected contain local anaesthetic. If you have had treatment in the mouth area, please be careful when drinking hot drinks the day of treatment.

The treated area may feel bumpy, bruised and look swollen, not everyone will experience this but it is considered normal post treatment and will settle.

Do not wear makeup over the treated area for 12 hours following your treatment with dermal fillers.

When will I see results and how long will they last?

Results of dermal filler are instant however, there will be some swelling and dermal filler generally takes 4 – 6 weeks to settle into your true and healed result.

Over time the gel is gradually and naturally degraded and results generally last from 6 – 18 months, sometimes longer in some individuals.

Do I need a follow up?

We recommend a follow up after 4 – 6 weeks to evaluate your results and discuss any remaining concerns you may have.

What areas can be treated?

We use dermal filler to treat the lips, cheeks, facial “hollowing”, marionette lines, chin, jawline, temples and tear troughs.

How much does Dermal Filler cost?

The cost of this treatment varies depending on the type of filler used and dosages needed to achieve your desired result.
